- West Indian Gherkin, also known as Little Hedgehog Cucumber. The fruit is oval with bluish green skin covered in fine soft spines; the spines feel soft and will not prick your hands. Its palmately divided leaves have distinct veins and resemble watermelon leaves in shape. Harvest the fruit when it grows to 2.5–5 centimeters long for the best flavor.
