Variety characteristics:

• W1383 Crisp Sweet Purple-Green is an early crisphead lettuce producing large, firm, fully wrapped heads with striking two-tone foliage. The outer leaves display a rich blend of deep purple, burgundy and green, while the tightly layered interior develops a tender pale-green to buttery-yellow color. Plants mature in approximately 80 days under suitable cool-season conditions. Well-developed heads typically weigh about 1.3–1.8 lb and form a rounded, compact structure with crisp, succulent leaves. The tender inner layers deliver a clean, mildly sweet flavor that is excellent for fresh salads, sandwiches, wraps, burgers and chilled lettuce cups.
This cool-season variety performs best when heads develop below 86°F. Extended heat can reduce head density, increase bitterness and encourage premature bolting. For the strongest color contrast and best eating quality, grow during the cool conditions of spring or fall, or under winter protection in mild climates. Lettuce generally develops its best quality below about 75°F, while temperatures above 80°F can reduce germination and encourage bolting. Space plants approximately 13.8 inches apart in rows spaced 19.7 inches apart. Maintain consistent soil moisture during head formation to encourage even growth and crisp, well-filled heads.
