Variety characteristics:

• W1382 Xiao Jian Ye is a newly selected green celtuce distinguished by its compact upright habit, narrow pointed leaves and attractive emerald-green stems. The lance-shaped gray-green foliage grows upward and remains closely gathered around the central stalk, reducing plant spread and allowing efficient garden spacing.
Plants develop moderate to strong vigor with excellent upright structure. The straight, well-shaped stems have bright green skin and crisp green interiors, offering a tender texture, clean aroma and refreshing vegetable flavor when harvested before the flower stalk begins to elongate.
This adaptable spring-and-fall selection performs well in open gardens, raised beds and protected low tunnels. It combines useful tolerance to cool conditions with improved performance during moderately warm weather, although prolonged heat can still encourage premature bolting.
Space plants approximately 11.8–15.7 inches apart in rows spaced 15.7–17.7 inches apart. The compact growth habit allows moderately close planting, but adequate airflow should be maintained to support uniform stem development.
Peel away the fibrous outer layer before eating. The tender inner stems are excellent for stir-fries, salads, quick pickles, soups, braised dishes and fresh vegetable plates.
