Variety characteristics:

• W1376 Green Ganlan Mi is a vigorous kabocha-type winter squash producing distinctive olive-shaped fruits weighing approximately 4.4–5.5 lb. The dark green to gray-green rind is decorated with silvery longitudinal stripes and scattered pale markings, creating a handsome contrast that clearly distinguishes it from the more uniformly gray-green Ganlan Mi selection.
The thick golden-orange flesh develops a dense, dry and fine-grained texture. Once cooked, it becomes soft and fluffy with concentrated sweetness, a honey-like finish and a rich chestnut aroma. Its substantial flesh is excellent for steaming, roasting, baking, mashing, soups, curries and sweet or savory fillings.
After harvest, fully mature fruits benefit from a short resting period in a dry, well-ventilated location. During storage, the green rind may gradually develop orange-toned striping while the flavor becomes sweeter and more rounded. Some winter squash types improve noticeably in flavor after appropriate storage.
The vigorous vines require generous growing space. Set plants approximately 19.7 inches apart in rows spaced about 59 inches apart. Allow the squash to mature completely on the vine, then harvest when the rind is hard, the surface color has become dull and the fruit stem is dry and corky.
