- Pittosporum tobira (common name: Hai Tong) is an evergreen shrub or small tree in the Pittosporaceae family. Mature plants can reach up to 6 meters tall, with young branches covered in brown pubescence and prominent lenticels. Its leathery leaves, persistent for 2 years, are densely clustered at the branch tips. Blooming from March to May, it produces terminal or subterminal umbels or corymbose umbels of flowers that open white with a sweet fragrance, fading to yellow as they mature. The round, ribbed or trigonous capsules (approx. 12 mm in diameter) ripen from September to October.
- This highly adaptable species thrives in an optimal temperature range of 15-30℃, with excellent cold and heat tolerance, as well as wind and humidity resistance. It adapts well to a wide range of light conditions: while it grows best in partial shade, it tolerates both full sun and shaded environments with ease.
