Main characteristics of the species:

- Paulownia fortunei is a deciduous tree. Its bark is mostly grey, greyish brown or greyish black, smooth when young and longitudinally fissured when mature, with pseudo-dichotomous branching. Leaves are simple and opposite, large and ovate, entire or slightly lobed, with long petioles covered with pubescence. It prefers full sun and warm climates, has low cold tolerance, and adapts well to heavy, infertile soils. It grows extremely fast in its juvenile stage and is a typical fast-growing tree species. The flowers have a bell-shaped or funnel-shaped corolla; they are large, pale purple or white, and form terminal panicles composed of numerous cymes. The fruit is a capsule, ovate or elliptical, splitting open along the back when ripe. Its wood features straight grain and uniform texture; it is resistant to warping and cracking and is easy to process. With its high cellulose content and light color, it is an excellent raw material for the paper industry. In addition, the leaves, flowers, fruits and bark of Paulownia can be used for medicinal purposes.
