Variety Characteristics:
- Desert Rose (scientific name: Adenium obesum) is a succulent shrub or small tree of the genus Adenium in the family Apocynaceae. It has a swollen trunk and smooth stems, white-green or grayish-white in color, with a thickened stem base and taproot resembling an elephant's leg. Leaves are obovate to elliptical, entire and fleshy. The corolla is funnel-shaped, red to pink on the outside and paler in the center, arranged in terminal corymbs. This plant is mainly distributed in arid and near-desert regions, preferring hot, dry and sunny conditions. It grows well in calcium-rich, loose, breathable and well-drained sandy loam. It does not tolerate shade or waterlogging, and is sensitive to heavy fertilizer, uncomposted fertilizer and low temperatures. The Desert Rose has a unique form and can be grown in the ground for small garden landscaping or potted as an ornamental plant. Its flowers also have certain medicinal value.
