- Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis) is an annual or winter-type grass with erect or inclined, soft culms, reaching a height of 7-30 cm. Its leaves are flat or folded, 2-12 cm long and 1-4 mm wide, soft in texture and often with transverse veins. The leaf apex is pointed and boat-shaped, with slightly rough edges. This grass species has well-developed rhizomes and excellent tillering ability, and can quickly form a dense and neat lawn with a long green period. It has strong stress resistance: it can survive severe winters without coverage and withstand dry and hot weather. It loves sunlight and also tolerates shade well, and is fairly drought-resistant. It adapts to various soils and grows in infertile land, but cannot endure waterlogging. Resistant to trampling, it is widely used for lawn laying on sports fields, golf courses and other areas. It also has high nutritional value and can be used as high-quality forage.
