Variety Characteristics:
- Jute is an annual, erect, woody herb belonging to the genus Corchorus in the family Tiliaceae, growing to a height of 1–2 meters. Its leaves are ovate-lanceolate or narrowly lanceolate, with a rounded base, an acuminate apex, and finely serrated margins. Native to tropical Asia, jute is a typical short-day crop that prefers warm and humid environments. It grows well in sunny positions with well-drained, loose and fertile soil, and is relatively easy to cultivate. As an important bast fiber crop, jute fibers are long, soft and lustrous with a golden yellow color. They have good moisture absorption and moisture release properties, and can be processed into high-strength coarse fibers, mainly used for textiles and rope making.
