Variety Characteristics:

- Jelly Palm (scientific name: Butia odorata) is an evergreen ornamental tree belonging to the genus Butia in the palm family (Arecaceae), native to Brazil and Uruguay in South America. It has a single, straight, and sturdy trunk that can reach 6-8 meters in height, with the remnants of old leaf bases wrapping around the trunk, creating a unique texture. Its pinnate leaves curve in an arching shape, are silvery-grayish green, thick and leathery, and have sharp tips; the petioles are spiny, and the inflorescences are axillary. The fruit is an ovoid drupe, turning yellow or orange when ripe, and contains round or nearly round seeds.

- This tree species exhibits excellent stress resistance. It thrives in sunny and warm environments, tolerates drought, dry heat, dry cold, and saline-alkaline conditions, and can withstand extreme low temperatures as low as -22°C. It has extremely broad adaptability and can be cultivated from tropical to temperate regions. It is not strict with soil requirements but grows best in loose and moist loam.

- Jelly Palm combines both ornamental and practical value. Its silvery-gray leaf clusters paired with purplish-red inflorescences form an elegant and neat appearance, making it highly suitable for row planting as street trees, or for clumping or solitary planting on lawns or among flowering shrubs. Its fruit is high in sugar, sweet and sour with a pleasant taste, and rich in vitamins, trace elements, and unsaturated fatty acids (accounting for over 50%). The flesh can be eaten directly and is also an excellent ingredient for making jams, jellies, and cake fillings.
