- Huang Qi (scientific name: Astragalus membranaceus) is a perennial herbaceous plant of the genus Astragalus in the Fabaceae family, 50–100 cm tall. Its taproot is thick, woody, often branched, and grayish-white; the stem is upright, with many branches in the upper section, fine ridges, and white pubescence. Huang Qi mainly grows on forest edges, in thickets, under sparse forests, and on slopes or near ditches at 2,500–4,000 m altitude. It prefers cool, sunny environments, exhibiting cold and drought resistance but sensitivity to heat and waterlogging. This plant has significant medicinal value: it enhances immune system function and is primarily indicated for all patterns of Qi Deficiency and Blood Deficiency.
