Leaves are densely clustered at the branch tips; lower leaves are irregularly alternate. Leaf blades are slenderly cylindrical, glabrous, and long white villous hairs often occur in the leaf axils. Flowers are solitary or several clustered at the apex, 2.5–4 cm in diameter, opening by day and closing at night; petals are double, obovate, slightly emarginate at the tip, 12–30 mm long, and come in rich colors. Propagation is very easy; it can be grown from seeds or cuttings. It thrives in warm, sunny conditions and grows poorly in shade or damp locations; it is highly drought-tolerant and adapts to poor soil, preferring well-drained sandy soil. It is easy to maintain and blooms profusely.
