Variety Characteristics:
- Hedysarum polybotrys, a perennial herb of the genus Hedysarum in the legume family, mainly grows on rocky mountain slopes and at the edges of shrub forests. The plant is 100–120 cm tall, with stout, dark reddish-brown roots; stems are erect, tufted and much-branched, branches stiff, glabrous and slightly flexuous. Flowering period: July–August; fruiting period: August–September. Its root is the traditional Chinese medicinal material Hongqi (Hedysari Radix), sweet and warm in nature. It can be sown in spring, summer and autumn. Loose, fertile sandy loam is suitable for planting. Pre-sowing germination treatment can improve the germination rate. Diseases can be controlled by crop rotation and chemical control.
