- Blue fescue (Festuca glauca) is an evergreen herbaceous plant belonging to the genus Festuca of the Poaceae family. It reaches a height of 25–40 cm with a plant spread roughly twice its height, naturally forming rounded, compact clumps. Its soft, needle-shaped leaves grow upright and smooth, appearing mostly silvery-blue covered with a silvery-white waxy bloom in summer and turning green in winter. Ornamental effects are much better when planted densely in clusters. This grass loves sunlight, features strong cold resistance, drought tolerance and adaptability to infertile soil. It thrives under full sun or partial shade and cannot tolerate waterlogged locations or hot, humid conditions. Widely adopted as edging plants for flower beds, garden borders and both sides of roads, it also works well in potted planting or mass landscaping, ranking as a high-quality cool-season ornamental grass for garden greening projects.
