- Chater's Double Hollyhock is a well-known double-flowered series among hollyhock varieties. It features huge blooms with layered petals similar to those of peonies. This variety is fairly cold-hardy and needs full-sun cultivation. It grows well in fertile, deep and well-drained sandy soil. Keep the soil moist throughout the growing season and avoid waterlogging. Mature plants can grow to 2–3 meters tall with upright flower stems. They are ideal for planting beside sunlit walls or fences as a garden backdrop, and can also be used as cut flowers. Given its tall growth and heavy flower heads, you are advised to install stakes in advance to prevent toppling over.
