- Blue flax (Linum perenne L.) is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the genus Linum in the family Linaceae. The plant is highly adaptable, sun-loving, cold-tolerant and drought-tolerant, and thrives in loose, well-aerated and well-drained soil. It grows to a height of 30–60 cm, with slender, erect stems that branch profusely; the leaves are alternate, linear or linear-lanceolate, grey-green in colour. The flowers are pale blue or sky blue, with petals bearing distinct dark veins. Boasting profuse blooms, delicate fresh hues, a long flowering period and low-maintenance requirements, it delivers outstanding ornamental performance. It fits flower border landscaping, flower bed edging and mass planting in courtyards, and can also be used as cut flowers.
