- 959 Sweet Truffle Heart is a striking Russian selection bred by Sofia Saakova and associated with her distinctive Comet breeding line. The vigorous indeterminate plants reach approximately 5.9 feet and mature from mid-early to midseason, producing a generous crop over an extended harvest period. Fruits average approximately 5.3–10.6 oz, with exceptional specimens exceeding 14 oz. Their unusual form ranges from a regular heart to a broader, softly ribbed truffle-shaped heart. The complex exterior blends olive green, ochre, bronze, rose, raspberry, and burgundy, often finished with purple coloration around the sun-exposed shoulders.
- Cut fruits reveal beautiful tricolor flesh combining green, yellow-ochre, and rose or raspberry tones. The tender, juicy interior delivers pronounced sweetness, rich fruity notes, and a full, aromatic tomato finish. These richly colored hearts are excellent for fresh slicing, salads, sandwiches, tasting platters, tomato juice, sauces, and colorful preserves. Train plants to one or two main stems and provide strong staking or trellising. This relatively young selection has demonstrated good uniformity, although occasional variation in fruit shape, exterior coloration, shoulder color, or internal pattern may still occur.
