- 956 Ballen Multiflora is an exceptionally productive indeterminate cherry tomato from Denmark, producing enormous, highly branched multiflora clusters filled with small red fruits. The cascading flower sprays can set dozens of tomatoes, creating a striking display as the fruits ripen from green through orange-red to a brilliant lantern red. Fruits from this seed line typically weigh approximately 0.4–0.7 oz. Their form ranges from rounded and slightly flattened to distinctly ribbed, resembling miniature accordions or tiny red lanterns. The fruits offer a sweet, classic tomato flavor with light balancing acidity and a richer fresh-eating quality than many ornamental multiflora types.
- Vigorous vines can grow approximately 6.6–8.2 feet and require tall, dependable support. Allow enough room for the large, branching flower clusters to expand without becoming tangled or damaged. The colorful fruits are excellent for garden snacking, salads, lunch boxes, garnishes, roasting, skewers, and whole-fruit preserves. The original Ballen population produced more than one fruit and truss form, and early Danish records indicated that it was not completely stable. More recently selected seed lines may show greater uniformity, although occasional differences in ribbing, fruit size, cluster structure, or fruit shape may still appear.
