Variety characteristics:

• 898 Wessel's Purple Pride Tomato is a new American selection bred from Cherokee Purple and Sausage. Fruits weigh about 5.3-8.8 oz and are slightly elongated, thick plum-shaped, with a pointed tip. The thin, delicate skin is purple, and the green shoulders turn purple as fruits ripen. The flesh is dense, paste-like, and layered, with very little gel and few seeds. Flavor is very sweet, and although the variety was originally intended for sauces and dressings, it is also excellent fresh because it tastes wonderful raw. Plants are vigorous, well-developed, multi-stemmed, and indeterminate with very dense, regular foliage.
