89 Blue Dwarf is a productive, mid-early determinate tomato developed by breeder Nikolay V. Zhegalin and first presented in 2020. Compact, sturdy plants grow approximately 20–28 inches tall and are well suited to containers, raised beds, and small gardens. The rounded to flattened fruits commonly weigh 4.2–5.3 oz, with some developing broad-heart shapes and gently ribbed shoulders. At maturity, the rich red to pink-red skin is covered with dramatic purple-black anthocyanin coloring where exposed to direct sunlight. The dense, juicy, meaty flesh contains relatively few seeds and offers rich tomato flavor with a pleasantly sweet, fruity finish. Although the plants remain compact, support the branches when they become heavily loaded with fruit.
