83 Monkey Ass is a vigorous midseason indeterminate tomato with Italian family-heirloom roots. Preserved for generations by a family whose ancestors came from Riardo in Italy's Province of Caserta, this variety produces impressive clusters of large pink to rose-red oxheart tomatoes. Fruits from this seed line weigh approximately 7.1–21.2 oz and range from broad, rounded hearts to deeply lobed and irregular beefsteak forms. The interior is exceptionally meaty and juicy, with delicate flesh, small seed cavities, and relatively few seeds. Its rich, sweet, full-bodied tomato flavor makes it an outstanding choice for thick slices, sandwiches, fresh salads, sauces, and old-fashioned tomato platters. The tall vines can remain productive throughout the season and require strong staking, caging, or trellising to support the heavy fruit.
