Variety characteristics:

• 779 Spear's Tennessee Green Tomato is a Tennessee heirloom variety grown by the Spear family since the 1950s. Its seed was later shared with the owner of Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, helping ensure wider distribution from 2008 onward. Fruits are medium to large, weighing about 5-10 oz, and are typically round to flattened with slight ribbing near the stem. The green fruits ripen with an amber glow, especially toward the blossom end. Flesh is pale green, tender, smooth, and juicy. Fruits should be allowed to fully ripen to appreciate their delicate, sweet, juicy flavor. Fruit shape may be somewhat unstable, with beefsteak-type and pear-shaped fruits sometimes appearing on the same plant.
