Variety characteristics:

• 497 Purple Sunrise is a midseason, indeterminate beefsteak tomato with a striking sunrise color pattern. Broad, flattened fruits ripen to golden yellow or warm orange-yellow while developing deep purple to near-black anthocyanin shoulders. Fruits in the commonly reported size range weigh approximately 7.1 to 8.8 oz and have juicy, tender flesh with a sweet, delicate fruity flavor. The sturdy plants reach about 5.9 ft and produce attractive clusters over a long harvest period. Purple Sunrise is excellent for fresh slicing, salads, sandwiches, and colorful tomato platters. Strong support helps protect the heavy fruiting branches.
