422 Tsarevich is a productive midseason Russian tomato bearing impressive yellow heart-shaped and broad-heart fruits weighing approximately 12 to 20 oz. Under intensive care and favorable growing conditions, exceptional fruits may approach 2.2 lb. The glossy tomatoes mature to brilliant lemon yellow and rich golden yellow, sometimes retaining light green shading between their deeply ribbed shoulders. Dense, meaty yet juicy flesh delivers pronounced sweetness and rich tomato flavor with more character than many mild yellow varieties. Vigorous regular-leaf indeterminate vines grow approximately 4.9 to 5.9 feet tall and perform well when trained to two or three main stems. Heavy-duty staking and individual fruit support are recommended for the largest tomatoes. Excellent for fresh slicing, sandwiches, salads, juice, roasting, golden sauces, and showpiece tomato platters.
