As they mature, the base color deepens from olive-brown and mahogany to rich reddish brown, while sun-exposed areas develop dramatic blue-black anthocyanin overlay and striping. The colorful shoulders and upper fruit become darker with stronger light exposure. Inside, the flesh is juicy and pleasantly firm, with a fruity tomato flavor and relatively few seeds.
