396 Black Kumquat is a striking midseason cherry tomato producing oval to slightly pear-shaped fruits weighing approximately 0.35–0.53 oz. Each fruit develops a gently tapered body and often finishes with a small pointed blossom end. As the tomatoes ripen, their lower portions turn vivid red to crimson while sun-exposed shoulders and sides develop a dramatic deep purple to nearly black anthocyanin overlay. Dense walls surround juicy red flesh with concentrated sweetness, rich aroma, and a lightly spicy tomato finish. Vigorous indeterminate vines grow approximately 5.9–6.6 feet tall and continue forming fruit clusters through the season. Provide a strong stake or trellis and maintain good airflow around the heavily loaded vines.
