387 Cuore Antico di Acqui Terme is a rare Italian oxheart and sauce tomato producing enormous red fruits that commonly average approximately 1.5–2 lb. The tomatoes develop broad, deeply folded hearts with pronounced shoulders and a gently tapered blossom end. Inside, the dense crimson flesh contains very little free gel and relatively few seeds, giving each fruit excellent body for passata, thick sauce, roasting, and freezing. The flavor is rich, aromatic, and full-bodied enough for fresh sandwiches and thick slices as well as cooking. Tall indeterminate vines require heavy-duty staking or trellising, especially when the first large fruits begin to set. This collector heirloom is a standout choice for gardeners who want maximum substance from a single tomato.
