Variety characteristics:

• 356 Barnes Mountain Yellow is a historic late-season Kentucky heirloom producing large, slightly flattened beefsteak fruits commonly weighing approximately 8 to 18 oz, with exceptional fruits exceeding 2 lb under favorable growing conditions. The substantial tomatoes mature from pale green to warm golden yellow and deep orange, occasionally developing a soft pink blush across the blossom end or outer flesh. The dense, exceptionally meaty yellow-orange flesh contains few seed cavities and delivers pronounced sweetness, moderate balancing acidity, and the rich, full-bodied flavor associated with traditional Appalachian tomatoes. Vigorous indeterminate plants develop regular foliage and may reach approximately 6.6 to 10 feet tall during a long growing season. Provide heavy-duty staking or trellising and support individual fruit clusters as the tomatoes enlarge. Excellent for fresh slicing, sandwiches, salads, caprese, juice, sauces, soups, and substantial tomato platters.
