318 Fred is a rare mid-to-late-season Missouri heirloom tomato producing large heart-shaped to elongated oxheart fruits weighing approximately 10.6 to 17.6 oz. The colorful tomatoes mature from golden yellow and warm orange to orange-red, developing variable pink, crimson, and red blushes across the skin. Inside, the dense, exceptionally meaty flesh displays striking yellow, orange, and red marbling with few seeds and a juicy, tender slicing texture. Rich sweetness, mild acidity, and a pleasantly fruity old-fashioned tomato flavor make Fred equally rewarding fresh or cooked. Vigorous indeterminate plants reach approximately 5.9 to 7.5 feet and develop slender stems with sparse, wispy regular-leaf foliage. Provide a strong stake or trellis and tie the heavy fruit clusters as they develop. Excellent for fresh slicing, sandwiches, salads, roasting, canning, sauces, and juice.
