317 Chukhloma is a highly productive midseason Russian tomato producing long clusters of bright orange, banana-shaped fruits weighing approximately 3.9 to 4.2 oz. The smooth cylindrical tomatoes reach approximately 4 to 5 inches long and develop gently pointed blossom ends, firm walls, resilient skin, and dense, meaty flesh with a pleasantly sweet, full tomato flavor. Vigorous indeterminate plants grow more than 6.5 feet tall and display dark green regular-leaf foliage, with heavy trusses commonly carrying 8 to 15 fruits that remain firmly attached as they ripen. Chukhloma's durable texture makes the fruits resistant to splitting under balanced growing conditions and well suited to handling, short-term storage, and transportation. Train the plants to one or two stems and provide a tall, secure trellis to support the long, heavily loaded clusters. Excellent for fresh snacking, salads, whole-fruit canning, roasting, drying, sauces, and colorful mixed tomato preserves.
