293 Cuba Giant Black is a productive midseason tomato producing substantial, flattened beefsteak fruits weighing approximately 8 to 16 oz. The deeply colored tomatoes ripen through shades of brick red, mahogany, burgundy, and dark purple-brown, often retaining dramatic olive-green shoulders and muted green shading across the upper half. Inside, the exceptionally juicy, tender flesh develops saturated crimson, rose-red, and purple coloring with pink marbling and green-tinted seed gel. Rich sweetness, savory depth, pronounced tomato aroma, gentle tartness, and a lingering smoky finish create the complex flavor associated with outstanding dark tomatoes. Vigorous indeterminate plants develop regular-leaf foliage, generally reach approximately 5.2 to 6 feet tall, and carry impressive clusters of ribbed fruits throughout the main harvest season. Train the vines to two or three stems and provide a tall, sturdy trellis to support the heavy crop. Excellent for fresh slicing, sandwiches, burgers, salads, caprese, tomato juice, roasting, salsa, and rich dark sauces.
