291 California Tulip is a spectacular midseason tomato producing deeply lobed, tulip-shaped fruits weighing approximately 5.3 to 8.8 oz in this seed line. The distinctive pear-shaped tomatoes ripen from pale green to golden yellow and warm orange, developing beautiful coral-pink, rose, and sunset-red blushes across the ribs and shoulders. Thick, meaty walls surround modest internal cavities with enough gel and juice to provide a satisfying fresh texture. Rich sweetness, mild acidity, and a full, aromatic tomato flavor make the fruits as delicious as they are ornamental. Vigorous indeterminate plants develop thick stems, generally reach approximately 5 to 6.5 feet tall, and carry productive trusses of approximately five to seven fruits. Train the vines to one or two stems and provide a tall stake or trellis for the heavily loaded branches. Excellent for fresh slicing, stuffing and baking, roasting, drying, salads, paste, ketchup, coulis, and thick sauces.
