277 Tennessee Surprise is an impressive heirloom tomato producing large, exceptionally juicy beefsteak fruits weighing approximately 10.6 to 28.2 oz, with occasional fruits approaching 2 lb under favorable conditions. Broad, irregularly oblate tomatoes mature to glowing golden yellow and orange, finished with variable red blushes across the shoulders and blossom end. Inside, the tender, meaty flesh displays striking swirls of yellow, coral pink, and deep red, creating a beautiful marbled appearance in every slice. The rich, sweet flavor is balanced by gentle tomato tang and abundant juice, making this an especially satisfying fresh-eating variety. Vigorous indeterminate vines produce heavy fruits throughout the season and require sturdy staking or trellising for dependable support. Excellent for fresh slicing, sandwiches, salads, tomato platters, sauces, and colorful summer bruschetta.
