174 Aftershock is a distinctive dwarf tomato developed by Blane Horton as part of the Rumpelstiltskin project and described as the sister line of Pit Viper. Compact plants have regular rugose foliage and an indeterminate growth habit, usually reaching approximately 16–28 inches in containers and up to about 3.9 feet when grown in the ground. Round to slightly flattened saladette fruits weigh approximately 2.1–2.8 oz. The skin combines pale green and deep green shading with attractive striping and bright red traces, remaining distinctly green even when ripe. Inside, the two-tone green flesh develops a red central blush that can become more pronounced when fruits mature on the plant in warm conditions. Fruits offer juicy texture, fruity sweetness, and balanced acidity. Provide a stake or small cage for the heavily loaded branches. Excellent for fresh snacking, salads, sandwiches, garnishes, and colorful green-when-ripe tomato platters.
