143 Purple Fairy Dwarf is a highly productive midseason bush-type tomato distinguished by its remarkable purple-brown and green-striped fruits. Compact regular-leaf plants commonly remain approximately 1.6–2 feet tall outdoors but may reach about 4 feet under greenhouse conditions or during a long growing season. The relatively slender branches produce generous clusters of rounded-oval to short plum-shaped tomatoes weighing approximately 0.7–1.4 oz, with occasional larger fruits under favorable growing conditions. As they ripen, the fruits develop deep purple, dusky red, and chocolate-brown coloring overlaid with bold dark green vertical stripes. The tender, juicy flesh offers a pleasantly sweet, mild, and full tomato flavor with only gentle acidity. Because the compact plants can become heavily loaded with fruit, provide a small cage or several stakes to prevent the slender branches from bending. Plants identified as determinate generally require little pruning and often ripen most of their crop within a concentrated harvest period. Excellent for fresh snacking, salads, roasting, pickling, whole-fruit preserving, and colorful culinary displays.
