1160 Sveta from Italy Red is an impressive midseason indeterminate tomato introduced from Italy and prized for its exceptionally large, classic red fruits. Powerful, thick-stemmed plants grow approximately 5.9–6.6 feet tall and produce clusters of three to four substantial tomatoes. The high-round to slightly oblate beefsteaks commonly weigh approximately 10.6–21.2 oz, with exceptional fruits reaching or exceeding 2.2 lb under favorable growing conditions. Smooth, brilliant red skins surround dense, meaty flesh with relatively few seeds and very little excess gel. The tender, buttery texture is complemented by rich sweetness, a sugar-dense finish, and an intense old-fashioned tomato aroma. Train plants to one or two main stems and provide heavy-duty staking, caging, or trellising to support the massive fruit load. Outstanding for fresh slicing, sandwiches, salads, tomato platters, juice, sauces, purée, and tomato paste.
