1148 Sofia's Ginger Comet is a spectacular mid-early to midseason indeterminate tomato developed by Russian breeder Sofia Saakova as part of her celestial series. Vigorous plants grow approximately 5.9–6.6 feet tall and produce large, elegant heart-shaped fruits weighing approximately 5.3–8.8 oz, with occasional specimens growing larger. The luminous fruits ripen from golden yellow to deep amber orange, while strong sunlight develops dramatic burgundy, purple-red, and chocolate-toned anthocyanin shoulders and streaks. Inside, dense golden-yellow flesh surrounds a striking pink-red center that resembles the glowing core and tail of a comet. The meaty, juicy interior contains relatively few seeds and delivers pronounced sweetness, rich fruitiness, and a smooth, full tomato finish. Train plants to one or two main stems and provide sturdy staking or trellising. Because this is a relatively new selection, minor variation in fruit shape, anthocyanin coverage, and interior coloration may occur. Outstanding for fresh slicing, sandwiches, salads, colorful tomato platters, roasting, and golden tomato sauce.
