- 1045 Bridge Over a Troubled River Yellow is a striking midseason indeterminate tomato producing large, heart-shaped fruits with extraordinary multicolored skin. The tomatoes mature from pale yellow to rich golden yellow, while sun-exposed shoulders develop smoky violet, purple-brown and blue-black streaks. Soft pink accents may also appear near the blossom end, making every fruit visually unique. The substantial oxheart fruits commonly weigh approximately 5.3–10.6 oz, with size and shape varying from elongated hearts to broad, rounded hearts. Inside, the luminous golden-yellow flesh is dense, juicy and relatively meaty, with small seed cavities and fewer seeds in the larger fruits.
- The flavor is richly sweet and aromatic, complemented by fruity notes and enough gentle acidity to create a bright, balanced finish. These spectacular tomatoes are excellent for fresh slicing, sandwiches, salads, colorful heirloom platters and golden tomato sauces. Vigorous indeterminate plants can reach approximately 5.9 feet and continue flowering and setting fruit throughout the season. Train plants to one or two main stems and provide tall stakes, strings or sturdy trellising. Moderate leaf thinning around established fruit clusters can improve color development, but retain enough foliage to protect the golden fruits from sunscald.
