101 Blue Keyes is a striking midseason indeterminate tomato developed by American breeder Dean Slater and named for his friend, Reverend Michael Keyes. Vigorous regular-leaf vines typically reach approximately 4.9–5.9 feet and produce abundant clusters of small pear, teardrop, and fig-shaped cherry tomatoes weighing approximately 0.35–1.1 oz. Sun-exposed fruits develop deep indigo-blue, purple, or nearly black anthocyanin coloring, while shaded portions ripen to dark red, mahogany, or chocolate brown with occasional green, orange, and gold striping. The juicy dark mahogany flesh surrounds green gel-filled seed cavities. Its flavor is earthy and tomato-rich, with moderate acidity, mild sweetness, and a lingering savory finish. Allow the lower portion of each fruit to turn reddish brown before harvesting for the fullest flavor. Thick, durable skin provides good crack resistance and excellent keeping quality. Provide sturdy staking or trellising. Excellent for salads, garnishes, fresh salsa, roasting, dehydrating, whole-fruit canning, and dramatic garden displays.
