The green rind gradually turns yellow-green as the melons mature and develops a delicate layer of pale, shallow netting. Inside, the thick orange to salmon-orange flesh is fine-textured, juicy, crisp and exceptionally sweet. Fully mature fruits may reach approximately 18 Brix under favorable growing conditions, although sweetness varies with sunlight, temperature, irrigation, fruit load and harvest maturity. Fruits are ready to harvest approximately 45 days after successful pollination under warm growing conditions. Vigorous vines can support about two to three market-sized melons per plant when properly trained and thinned. Space plants approximately 19.7 inches apart in rows spaced 39.4 inches apart.
For ground culture, pinch the main growing tip after 8–12 true leaves have developed, retain vigorous secondary vines and allow tertiary laterals to carry the fruit. When grown vertically, provide strong trellising and support each developing melon with a sling. Reliable bee activity or hand pollination helps promote well-shaped fruit and consistent fruit set. Inadequate pollination can result in misshapen fruit or failed fruit development.
